2015 GCDOC Internal Affairs Summary Report

The Special Investigations Unit serves to ensure that the integrity of the Department is maintained through a system of internal discipline where fairness and justice are assured by an objective and impartial investigation and review.

The Special Investigations Unit has an obligation to investigate or review any allegation of employee misconduct that is a potential violation of the Departments rules and regulations or which indicates that the employee is unable, unwilling or unfit to perform his or her duties.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Use of force incidents
  • Pre-employment interviews
  • Background checks
  • Criminal histories
  • Breach of security by an inmate
  • Citizen complaints
  • Document firearm discharges
  • Vehicular pursuits
  • Vehicle collisions
  • PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act)  Investigating all allegations of prisoner sexual abuse, sexual misconduct or sexual harassment
