County Department of Health offers free fitness programs for seniors

(Clayton, NJ) On Thursday, May 2, Freeholder Jim Jefferson attended a Tai Chi class hosted by the Clayton Senior Center. Tai Chi includes agile steps and exercises that may improve mobility, breathing and relaxation through movements that are slow and uninterrupted. This program provides participants with a chance to gain or improve balance, strength, and flexibility.

The Tai Chi class is one of many free fitness programs offered by the Department of Health. Other classes include activities such as Chair Yoga or their Step by Step Walking program.

Freeholder Jim Jefferson, liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services said, "The Board of Chosen Freeholders recognizes that an active lifestyle is the key to successful aging. We encourage our residents to take advantage of these free programs in order to keep their bodies healthy and happy."

For information on upcoming class schedules contact the Gloucester County Department of Health at 856-218-4106.
