Road construction in Woolwich Township and Borough of Swedesboro to begin June 11

(Woolwich, NJ) Starting on or around Monday, June 11 the Gloucester County Highway Department will be taking the first steps in the 2018 Highway Overlay Program with the resurfacing of Center Square Road and Auburn Road in Woolwich and Swedesboro.

Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, "We are excited to take the first steps in completing our 2018 Highway Overlay Program. This program will allow us to maintain our roadways for our motorists."

Damminger said that the program give the county the opportunity to address other issues such as any inlet grates not meeting NJDOT standards, inlet openings not meeting NJ Storm Water Management Guidelines, concrete sidewalk ramps that do not meet ADA standards, and the replacement of traffic striping when needed.

The project, which is estimated to take five days to complete, weather permitting, will consist of milling two inches of the existing asphalt and overlaying the roadway with two inches of a new asphalt surface course.

Freeholder Heather Simmons, liaison to the Department of Public Works, said, “Now the summer is here, residents and drivers will see a lot more road work taking place.  The safety of the driving public is a priority and the county maintains its roadways by repaving several each year so we are not in a position of having a deteriorating infrastructure.”

The roadways may be detoured but will allow traffic to flow in one direction throughout the length of the project. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained when possible. Work will take place between the hours of 6 a.m. and 4 p.m., during which residents will have full access to their driveways at all times.
