New roof for Clayton couple in need

(Clayton, NJ) – Merryfield Construction Group has selected Clayton homeowners Frank and Wendy Errig as beneficiaries of a new roof through the company's "Merryfield Cares Campaign - Restoration by Donation" community outreach program, which they started in 2016 to help families facing significant health and financial challenges.  Each year, the company selects a deserving family to receive a new roof and rallies employees, community volunteers, and partners for the needed labor and supplies. So far, Merryfield has engaged GAF to donate the roofing shingles, Robinson Waste to donate a dumpster and a Port-A-Pot, and Rastelli Market Fresh to donate a lunch for all participants.

Freeholder Heather Simmons, Liaison Economic Development and Assemblyman Adam Taliaferro visited the site on Thursday, Aug. 29 to congratulate the Errig’s and to thank company owners George and Lewis Merryfield and their employees for their generosity.

Simmons said, “This act of kindness speaks volumes about the type of community we have in Gloucester County.  Merryfield is paying it forward and they are a fine example of what it is to be a great neighbor.  We have many companies and local businesses who help out in various ways and that is what makes our community a special place.”

Merryfield Construction Group is owned and operated by brothers George and Lewis Merryfield. They chose the Errig family after reading a nomination letter from Jordan Howey, their son’s girlfriend of three years.  Jordan, a Gloucester Township resident and Rutgers Camden nursing student, described Frank and Wendy Errig as “special people” who face financial and health challenges “with a smile on their faces.” She added “they are genuinely great and humble people who never ask for help.” As the company states on its website, “in hard times, we don't turn our backs on members of our community. We reach out and offer them a hand.”  This year, George and Lew plan to expand the program to benefit two families. Nominations can be submitted via the company’s website at
