Washington Township High School wins 24th Annual Consumer Bowl

(West Deptford, NJ) – The Gloucester County Office of Consumer Protection hosted the 24th Annual Consumer Bowl on February 7, 2020, at the River Winds Community Center in West Deptford. Washington Township High School won and will advance to the regional finals in the spring.

Washington Township High School challenged students from Gateway High School, West Deptford High School and Glassboro High School to win the title. They took home the trophy with a whopping 120 points. The competition has been designed to challenge high school students’ knowledge and understanding of Consumer Information and Rights in the Marketplace.

Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, “In today’s economy most consumers are searching the internet for the best selection of products and services at the right price. We want to educate our young consumers to be aware in order to protect themselves from fraud.”

Freeholder Lyman Barnes, Liaison to the Department of Consumer Protection said, “We are aware that the landscape of shopping has changed over the years from in-person purchases and returns to internet buying. It is important that all residents have the knowledge to make informed purchases.”

“We want to be certain our residents are acquainted with the potential for consumer fraud and encourage them to reach out to our office to seek assistance or to address their questions,” added Freeholder Barnes.
