Gloucester County Veterans honored at 2020 Medal Ceremony

(National Park, NJ) The County of Gloucester presented the Gloucester County Military Service Medal to veterans at a ceremony on September 12.  The ceremony was held at Red Bank Battlefield, located at 100 Hessian Ave in National Park.

Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said, "Gloucester County commissioned the Gloucester County Service Medal in 2001 as a way to honor our veteran residents. This year we presented 40 veterans with the medal to show our gratitude for their service."

Damminger said that after this year's ceremony, more than 5,900 Military Service Medals will have been presented since the medal was commissioned. The medal is available to Gloucester County Veterans who have served on active duty in the military and received an honorable discharge.

Freeholder Dan Christy Liaison to the County Office Veterans Affairs, said, “It is important to honor our veterans and, in our county, we do that in several ways. In addition to this token of appreciation, we provide veterans with a full time Veterans Affairs Office; a full-time Gloucester County VA Health Clinic; and the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery because we believe that it is our duty to provide a service to these individuals who have provided their country a great service in the past.”

Freeholder Deputy Director Frank J. DiMarco said, “The Gloucester County Military Service Medal represents a small token of our gratitude to all the brave and courageous serviceman and woman and their commitment to America’s values and way of life.”

“This medal and the ceremony remind us of the sacrifices these brave men and women made to serve our country. Their service allows us to live in America safely,” said Freeholder Jim Jefferson.
