The Highway Division coordinates work programs under the direction of the Board of County Commissioners and the Director of Public Works. The Highway Division is involved with road and bridge maintenance repairs, this includes construction and reconstruction (asphalt overlay) of roads, and snow and ice control. The division also maintains drainage pipes, and culverts.
The department is responsible for the issuance of Road Opening Permits and the inspection of road openings and new accesses onto County roads. The Highway Division is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure County public roadway system for various modes of transportation. The primary function of the Highway Division is the operation, maintenance, and improvement of the County's 410 miles of road and 85 bridges.
Administration and supporting activities are handled at our Clayton Complex. Maintenance functions are provided through our satellite yards in Mantua and Swedesboro. The division's highest priority is to provide the needed routine maintenance to protect the investment in existing roads and bridges.
