Mental Health & Intervention Committee

The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office is dedicated to addressing the needs of individuals with mental illness within our criminal justice system. This committee is composed of:

  • County and state officials
  • Mental health professionals, providers and advocates
  • Prosecutors
  • Public defenders

Its' mission is to improve mental health services by identifying those individuals in need of service and establishing treatment plans to assist in their transition back into the community. Our goal is to reduce the level of recidivism among this portion of the population.

Programs

Through the efforts of the members of the Mental Health Committee, many different programs have been established. These include:

  • A jail bridge program which provides case management services to offenders with mental health issues, with emphasis is on linkage to services such as:
    • Employment
    • Finances
    • Housing
    • Medication
    • Treatment
  • A mental health training program for law enforcement personnel, probation, court personnel and the judiciary to educate them on the causes and treatment of the mentally ill
