Insurance Fraud Unit

The Insurance Fraud Unit of the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office was established in July 1999. It is fully funded by a grant awarded to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office by the Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor of the State of New Jersey. The goal of the Insurance Fraud Unit is to identify, investigate and prosecute violations of New Jersey's criminal statutes as they pertain to insurance fraud.

Identification of insurance fraud depends upon an increased level of awareness throughout Gloucester County. To that end, the unit sponsors training seminars for local law enforcement, County agencies and SIU personnel of insurance carriers.

Public awareness is vital to the progress of the Insurance Fraud Unit. As consumers learn of the true cost to them for the fraud perpetrated by others, they are more likely to call the hotline with valuable tips. To educate the general public, the unit mans the Gloucester County Store on an as needed basis and distributes brochures at County functions such as the County Services Day at the Deptford Mall and National Night Out. The unit also informs the public of its prosecutions with press releases.
