Commissioner Deputy Director Frank J. DiMarco attended the Woolwich Township Route 322 Sewer/Water Groundbreaking ceremony that took place on Monday, March 15 at the intersection of US Rt. 322 and Locke Avenue. Woolwich Township has worked tirelessly for a number of years to accomplish this goal in an effort to bring economic growth and vitality not only to Woolwich Township but to Gloucester County as a whole.
Through partnerships with GCUA/GCIA and Swedesboro, not only will Woolwich Township finally realize the economic growth it has been seeking, but the Borough of Swedesboro is now able to eliminate their outdated treatment facility and build their own pump station to tie into the new force main.
While the significance of bringing sewer to the RT322 Regional Center and solving the problem of an outdated treatment facility in Swedesboro is obvious, this project will also remove thirty-five (35) tractor trailers carrying leachate from the Landfill to GCUA.
- With the leachate able to be sent through a sewer line, it becomes “safer, cleaner, more efficient, and also decreases costs! (A win for all Gloucester County residents).
- The elimination of an outdated treatment facility in the Borough of Swedesboro and potential cost for system upgrades (win for the Borough of Swedesboro and the environment).
- Sewer at 322 opens the corridor to commercial & retail ratables, jobs and significant road improvements (win for not only Woolwich Township, but the economic viability of Gloucester County as a whole).
