[ARCHIVED] Gloucester County holds annual Memorial Day Ceremony

Group- Memorial Day

The Gloucester County Board of Commissioners gathered to honor veterans at the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery.

“Each year we gather to pay our respects to the men and women who have bravely served our country. It is thanks to them that we have our freedom and we are eternally grateful to their bravery,” said Director Robert M. Damminger.

“Memorial Day honors those who died in uniform, those who gave all they have and all they ever will have. This day means so much to those families that grieve over this tremendous loss and we hope they know they are not alone in that loss,” said New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney.

The Gloucester County Memorial Day Ceremony is held at the Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery each year. The cemetery provides healing and commemoration for veteran's families, friend visitors, and service attendees. There are over 3,000 veterans interred at the Cemetery.

“Each year we witness volunteers placing flags on the gravesites of each veteran at the cemetery. It is a small but powerful way to honor those who have served,” said Commissioner Dan Christy, Liaison to the Office of Veteran’s Affairs.
