Department Spotlight: Sheriff’s Office

Gloucester County Sheriffs Office Star

The members of the Gloucester County Sheriff's Office are dedicated to protecting life and property. We are committed to providing all citizens with the highest quality law enforcement services and strive to perform our duties in an efficient and effective manner.

We recognize that the ability to successfully complete our mission is based on shared mutual respect and responsibility between the Sheriff's Office, county and municipal agencies, and the citizens we serve. As professionals, we will enforce the laws in a fair and impartial manner, recognizing both the statutory and judicial mandates of this Office, and at all times respecting and protecting the constitutional rights of every individual.

The primary functions performed by the Sheriff's Office are mandated by law. They include responsibilities in both civil and criminal areas of the law.

These responsibilities include:

  • Civil Process Unit - Oversees the service of summonses and complaints, writs of execution, execution of judgments, and foreclosure sales of real property
  • Court Security Bureau - Providing security for:
    • Adult Probation Office
    • Family Court Building
    • Fiscal Unit of Probation
    • Justice Complex
    • Old Court House
    • Rowan College at Gloucester County
    • Special Services School District
  • Field Services Bureau - Includes the Warrants Unit which is responsible for the apprehension of all county fugitives
  • Transportation Unit - Responsible for transporting adult and juveniles’ remands
  • Special Investigations Unit - The investigative division of the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office

The Sheriff’s Office also offers additional programs and services.

The Child Safety Seat Program and Sheriff's Officers are at the County Clerk's Store in the Deptford Mall every 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. At your visit, they will ensure your child’s safety seat is properly installed and teach you how to install the seat as well.

The D.A.R.E. Program is a collaborative effort by certified law enforcement officers, educators, students, parents, and community to offer an educational program in the classroom to prevent or reduce drug abuse and violence among children and youth. The Sheriff’s Office presents the D.A.R.E. Program to Gloucester County Special Services School District, Gloucester County Vocational School District and Rowan College at Gloucester County.

The New Jersey constitution decrees that the sheriff is the highest elected public law enforcement officer in every county. Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office is led by Sheriff Carmel Morina.

The entire Sheriffs’ Office’s top priority is to protect and safely serve our residents. The Sherriff’s Office can be reached at 856-384-4630 or by visiting our website at www.gloucestercountynj.gov.
