(Sewell, NJ)—The New Jersey Department of Human Services has issued an increase in benefits for residents who currently receive food assistance through the NJ Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (NJ SNAP).
NJ SNAP recipients will receive at least a 15 percent increase in benefits in January to help address food needs related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The Gloucester County Division of Social Services will assist any resident with questions or concerns regarding their benefits and how they may be changing.
“We want every family to be able to put food on their tables during this time,” Commissioner Director Robert M. Damminger. “Many of our SNAP recipients include elderly or disabled individuals, which are particularly vulnerable to the coronavirus. The additional benefits will allow them to purchase more food and stay inside.”
The increased benefits will be directly loaded to NJ SNAP recipients’ Families First EBT cards as part of their regular monthly payment.
“Access to SNAP benefits right now is crucial,” said Commissioner Jim Jefferson, liaison to the Division of Social Services, said. “I want to encourage anyone who is struggling to reach out to Gloucester County’s Division of Social Services.”
