(Sewell, NJ)—Gloucester County is operating its Mega Vaccination Site at Rowan College of South Jersey.

Gloucester County is home to one of six vaccine sites across the State of New Jersey. In its first week, the site will vaccinate over 2,500 residents.

“Although this number is impressive for our first week being opened, we are far from reaching our capabilities,” said Robert M. Damminger, Director of the Gloucester County Board of Commissioners. “As long as we get a steady supply of vaccine, we are ready to open for 2,000 appointments a day. This site has the manpower and capabilities to offer well over 3,000 vaccines a day, but we cannot operate without the supply.”

Since opening as a pilot site on Tuesday, January 5, the site has vaccinated the following per day:

On Tuesday, January 19, we will be able to offer 1,000 appointments to those pre-registered and 2,000 appointments each day thereafter as long as we continue to regularly receive vaccine.

You must register on https://covidvaccine.nj.gov. Vaccines are not guaranteed for walk-ins.

As of Friday, January 15, 2021, the site is currently only vaccinating the individuals who fall into Phase 1A and Phase 1B as defined and announced by the State of New Jersey. Phase 1A and Phase 1B include:

Phase 1A 

• Paid and unpaid persons serving in health care settings who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients or infectious materials
• All residents and staff of long-term care facilities.

Phase 1B

• Sworn law enforcement, firefighters, and other first responders.
• Individuals aged 65 and older are eligible. Individuals ages 16-64 with medical conditions, as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, that increase the risk of severe illness from the virus.

“It’s definitely been a learning experience to open and run a successful COVID-19 Vaccination Site, but we’ve prepared for this and stood ready to assist when the time came,” said Commissioner Jim Jefferson.

“Gloucester County and beyond has been waiting for this vaccine. As an educator myself, receiving the vaccine means we’re closer to getting back into schools safely which has been top priority since March. We did the work on our end and set up an efficient, organized and prepared site now it’s in the hands of the state and federal government,” said Commissioner Jim Lavender.
