Welcome to the Gloucester County Pollinator Pitstop Program!
What is Pollinator Pitstop?
A garden that provides habitat and nutrition to pollinators, uses non-toxic products, and has at least one native plant species. A Pollinator Pitstop Garden has nectar and host plants for creatures such as butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds.
Our Goal
To connect private and public gardens in Gloucester County, NJ as pollinator friendly spaces.
Why Does it Matter?
Pollinators are necessary to our environment - they are essential for the world's food production. The loss of habitat is threatening our pollinators due to more natural environments becoming more urban and suburban.
Show Your Commitment
Post your Pollinator Pitstop sign to raise awareness in your community.
Design Tips for a Pollinator Pitstop Garden:
- Find a spot that ideally gets 6+ hours of sunlight
- Set out your plants before digging holes to see how your garden will look
- Plant your garden from largest to smallest - tall plants in the back
- Water to keep moist for the first two weeks, then water as needed
- Weed, weed, weed. Weeds compete for the nutrition of small establishing plants.
- Be patient - your garden may take a few years to fully establish and fill in
