Sheriff’s Officer

The role of a Sheriff's Officer is critical to our mission of maintaining law and order in Gloucester County. We are looking for dedicated individuals who can uphold our values of Integrity, Respect, Service, and Fairness.


Job Description

As a Sheriff’s Officer, your duties will include but not limited to:


Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be a resident of New Jersey at the time of appointment
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license
  • Must have a High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must pass the Civil Service Examination


Selection Process

The selection process for the position of Sheriff's Officer includes but is not limited to:

  1. Civil Service Examination
  2. Initial Application
  3. Physical Fitness Test
  4. Background Investigation
  5. Medical Examination
  6. Psychological Evaluation
  7. Final Interview


Sheriff’s Investigator

A Sheriff’s Investigator is a sworn law enforcement officer with the same statutory powers and duties as a Sheriff’s Officer. Sheriff’s Investigators are assigned where operationally needed which may include uniform or plain clothes duties. Sheriff’s Investigator’s work at the discretion of the Sheriff and do not fall under New Jersey Civil Service. 


Job Description

As a Sheriff’s Investigator, your duties will include but not limited to:

  • Maintaining security in court proceedings
  • Transporting and ensuring the safety of inmates and the public
  • Enforcing laws and ordinances
  • Preventing and detecting crimes


Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be a resident of New Jersey at the time of appointment
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license
  • Must have a High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • PTC Certification
  • Meet any and all additional requirements of N.J.S. 40A:14-122 to N.J.S. 40A:14-127


Selection Process

The selection process for the position of Sheriff's Officer includes but is not limited to:

  1. Submit Letter of Interest along with a Resume
  2. Pre-Employment Orientation
  3. Oral Board Interview
  4. Initial Application
  5. Physical Fitness Test
  6. Background Investigation
  7. Medical Examination
  8. Psychological Evaluation
  9. Final Interview
