AmeriCorps Seniors

Corporation for National and Community ServiceAmeriCorps Seniors connects today's 55 and older with the people and organizations that need them most. We help them become mentors, coaches, or companions to people in need or contribute their job skills and expertise to community projects and organizations. Volunteers receive guidance and training so they can make a contribution that suits their talents, interests, and availability. At present, the Gloucester County AmeriCorps Seniors Retired Seniors Volunteer Program has hundreds of volunteers serving many different types of non profit and faith based agencies in the county.

Rowan College at Gloucester County Sponsor

Our sponsor Rowan College at Gloucester County has housed the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program for the last 34 years. As of July 2015, the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program has been moved to the Gloucester County Division of Senior Service building at 115 Budd Boulevard West Deptford New Jersey. Our new location has increased the number of seniors we are able to assist each day.

State Health Insurance Program

AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP has a direct service program called the State Health Insurance Program or SHIP for Medicare Counseling services. The program is extended to residents on Medicare due to age or disability. The program counselors are volunteers trained and certified by Medicare to counsel and advocate for clients on issues such as billing, insurance choices, appeals, prescription company selections, supplemental, and Advantage plans. At present, the Gloucester County SHIP program counsels thousands of one on one clients per year and conducts outreach to an many, many more residents through presentations throughout the county.

Stress Busting Programs

You are not alone! Join us for this free program on stress-busting tips for caregivers. 

This program will teach: 

  • Stress management techniques
  • Relaxation and coping strategies

Who:

  • For family caregivers of a loved one with Alzheimer's or other dementia

What: Multi-component program meets 

  • 90 minutes each week for 9 weeks
  • Groups of up to 8 people

We offer help enrolling eligible applicants into the following programs:

• The Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (PAAD) program is a state-funded program that helps eligible seniors and individuals with disabilities save money on their prescription drug costs. Call us for current income limits. PAAD only looks at income and does not consider assets.

• Lifeline Utility Assistance

• Medicare Savings Programs (SLMB & QI-1) –if qualified the deduction for the Part B Premium will be put back into your social security check.

• Medicare Part D’s Low-Income Subsidy (LIS), also known as “Extra Help”

• Hearing Aid Assistance to the Aged and Disabled (HAAAD) — now $500

• Universal Service Fund (USF)/Low-Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

• Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

Reassurance Caller Program

Gloucester County AmeriCorps Senior Reassurance Caller Program provides a volunteer that will call you at least 2 times a week to provide support and company.  There is no cost for this program.  More information: Reassurance Caller Program
