Wells
Registered Environmental Health Specialists (REHS) review and inspect all aspects of newly constructed and replacement wells for homeowners and public non-community (PNC) water supply systems that serve as a source of potable water. The review and inspection process is conducted to ensure the water supply system and water quality is in compliance with the applicable regulatory standards.
Newly Constructed Potable Wells
All newly constructed potable wells must be certified as being in compliance with the applicable regulations prior to the water supply being used as a source of potable water. The certification can only be issued after the satisfactory installation of the water supply system and after any necessary treatment to bring the water quality into conformance with the standards.
Forms
Forms for homeowners water supply systems and Public Non-Community water supply systems are located on the Applications and Forms page.
Private Well
If you own a home with drinking water supplied by a private well it is important to know how to keep your drinking water safe by regularly testing the water, treating the water properly, and maintaining the well and area around it.
Safe Drinking Water Program
Public community water systems (Municipal Water Systems) fall under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP). Public water concerns should be directed to your local water department or municipal utility authority. For additional assistance, contact NJDEP-Bureau of Safe Drinking Water at 609-292-5550.
